Marathon Training Injuries
Common Marathon Training Injuries that Marathon Runners Face
Marathon training injuries are not new to those who have been training or running marathon for some time. Marathon training or running as you may have known is such a demanding physical activity that can push your body systems to the limit. Most marathon training injuries can be prevented or at least controlled to a good extend if you are using a reliable marathon training plan or program. In addition to a good marathon training plan, you also need to know what to do if you encounter one of the common marathon training injuries. Almost all marathon runners or endurance runners in general have or will experience some kind of running related injury at one point in their training.
Marathon Training Injuries include but not limited to the following:
Shin Splints:
These are pain in from of the leg. Shin splints are usually caused by inflammation of the sheath covering the bone. It can also be caused by the inflammation of the front leg muscles. Depending on the marathon training plan you are using, shin splints can be easily controlled. Shin splints are probably one the most common marathon training injuries and any endurance or marathon runner will tell you that. In other words shin splints are caused by overworking or overtraining the muscles not necessarily by running or marathon training, but doing other day to day activities as well.
Stress Fracture:
Thought stress fracture is also associated with other sporting activities such as football, it is one of the most common marathon training injuries. Just like shin splints, stress fracture is a result of overload caused by marathon training. If you are using a reliable marathon training plan or program, stress fracture should not happen to you.

Achilles Tendonitis:
Like shin splints and stress fracture, Achilles tendonitis is probably one of the most common endurance running or marathon training injuries. As a matter of fact I have heard some of the athletes I coach mistake shin splints for Achilles tendonitis just because Achilles tendinitis is almost synonymous with running. It is a pain at the back of the leg between the large calf muscle and the ankle bone. Just like shin splints (which are the front muscle of the leg) Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon connecting the calf muscle and the heel bone. It is not just one of the endurance or marathon training injuries, it one injury that if it is not taken care of immediately may lead to other injuries as well.
